Work experience/progression programme
Throughout the academic year, West Studios works with Chesterfield College Art and Design department to offer students opportunities in developing, running and taking part within their own exhibitions and creative events, to add to the value and purpose of the students chosen courses.
We're offering Chesterfield College students the opportunity to work with them in curating and exhibiting their own creative event apart of Derbyshire Open Arts 2017, running Saturday 27th May – Saturday 3rd June.
This public, county-wide event will provide participating students exposure within the professional creative sector; to potential employers and universities. In addition, students will be working with the West Studios team and tenants as professional artists and designers to plan, curate, advertise and run this event.
As a result, chosen students will become a part of the “Young Contemporaries 2017”; each will receive a professional profile on this website and be included within all Derbyshire Open Arts marketing.
The ‘Start Up Studio’ was set up for Chesterfield College students not going to university after their course finished and interested in starting their own business. This year Rosie Perrett and Bethany Cartwright, both specialising in ceramics, have taken residence in the old headmasters room.
Bethany, who finished her Art and Design Foundation Diploma in June 2016, creates free flowing, shell-like forms on a commission basis. She is using this year to develop her interest in ceramics and build on her skill set with the support of West Studios and her old tutors within College.
Rosie, who studied Art Foundation, creates personified collections of animals. Her focus for the year is to develop other similar collections for exhibitions and small retailers.
