We have been busy in West Studios working with the college to set up a new set of creative workshops starting from January 2018!
An introduction to working with clay - £185.00 including a set amount of materials.
A 6-week course, suitable for beginners and improvers covering a broad range of pottery techniques and processes. We have an excellent pottery department with potter’s wheels and a separate glazing and kiln room; we also have a Raku kiln which will enable learners to experience this unique firing technique. During this course you’ll also study the main clay fabrication techniques of pinching, coiling and slab work. This is new and exciting pottery course is designed to introduce adult learners to a broad range of pottery techniques and is suitable for both beginners and those looking to improve their skills. During the final week of the courses there is also the opportunity to take part in a short exhibition within a professional gallery space. This is a great opportunity for your friends and family to see the work you have created.

Advanced Ceramic Techniques - £185.00 including a set amount of materials.
The 6-week advanced pottery course is designed to enable learners to extend on their existing pottery skill and techniques. You will get individual support to develop your technical and creative skills in both hand built and wheel thrown forms. During this course you’ll study in our well-equipped studio and create work using potter’s wheels, have access to a glazing and kiln room, and a Raku kiln which will enable you to practice this unique firing technique. Our experienced tutors will provide individual support to help you develop and refine your hand-built and wheel-thrown creations. During the final week of the courses there is also the opportunity to take part in a short exhibition within a professional gallery space. This is a great opportunity for your friends and family to see the work you have created.

An introduction to Print: Collagraph & Lino - £135.00 including materials.
This is our new 5 week course running on a Thursday evening, 6pm-9pm. Work with print specialist and explore the print room, focusing on Collagraph and Lino. This intro course will build your confidence and give you experience working with different print techniques. This course is ideal for beginners who are looking to learn new intaglio and stencil techniques. During this course you’ll be guided by our expert tutors who can provide one-to-one support and offer advice.

Intermediate level Print: Lino, Collagraph & Mono - £135.00 including materials.
For those who have tried printmaking before, work with our print specialist to create more complicated and focused pieces using these 3 techniques. A 5 week course running a Thursday evening, 6pm-9pm. During this course you’ll work closely with our experienced tutors to learn new lino, collograph and mono skills.

Save The Date...West Studios Christmas Market - Saturday 2nd December 2017
Our Christmas Market is fast approaching with less than three weeks to go! From this Friday we will be releasing the stall holders and tenants that will be part of the market via our social media. You lucky blog readers, however get a sneak peak into the market by finding out a stall holder early and finding out some activities running throughout the day.
Collection 47, a local jeweller who specialises in jewellery, will be having a stall at our Christmas Market. Make sure to take at look at their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see their work ahead of the market.
There will also be activities for children running throughout the day. From £2 little ones will be able to get involved in mini-makes and do some simple animation.
There's plenty for adults too with stalls offering the unique and handmade gifts for those special people in your life. From ceramics to animation to silversmithing, there will be something for everyone at the market. Be sure to come down, shop local and support independent businesses and artists.

Staff Exhibition
Our first ever Staff Exhibition is underway.
From the 29th September until 27th of October, you can see contributions from five of Chesterfield College's lecturers in our Gallery Shop.
- Ben Atkins, ceramics - Ben's pieces are striking in their form. Strong lines are juxtaposed with metallic fluidity.
- Jo Bunbury, ceramics - Jo creates organic and tactile pieces that contrast delightfully with Ben Atkins'.
- Mick Godley, digital prints - purposeful, monochromatic structures.
- Mint, silver-plated pewter cast metal - fun and playful pieces of Sheffield's iconic structures and legacies.
- Craig Titley, photography and prints - a mixed range of Craig's photography. From wet printed, outdoor landscapes to x-ray style wall art; colour and black & white.
All pieces shown are currently being exhibited and are for sale.

- Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm
- Saturday 10am - 1pm

- Sundays - 15th October during the exhibition and every other Sunday thereafter.
