ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE by Ray Castleton

West Studios tenant, Ray Castleton, has written a powerful and engaging story of a post-war Yorkshire mining family, coming to terms with their rapidly changing world and a new Britain; told with warmth and authenticity.

1945: a land fit for heroes - this time?

1945: a land fit for heroes - this time?

Based on extensive research and true stories, On Behalf of The People was originally commissioned by the National Coal Mining Museum for England and reveals how millions of people in mining communities were affected by the end of the war, coal nationalisation and the huge period of social change which impacted on their lives, love, hopes and dreams.

'Tom Mason returns from the war to the arms of his grateful mother and fiancee - and to the bosom of the pit. George fights his own battles and an election. Connie mourns, loves and unites as Liz sees a new world, brim-full of opportunity. In a new Britain, will their hopes and dreams be reconciled?'

The Melting Shop - telling real stories that matter.

The play is available to view at the Chesterfield College Theatre on Friday 25th May at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 for the play are available via West Studios. Call us on 01246 500 799 or email hello@weststudios.co.uk.
